This isn't all that surprising: Before Smash's debut in 2011, producer Craig Zadan said at NBC Press Tour, âI don't think any of us feel our show is like Glee, but we feel grateful to Glee for opening that door,â â" creating space for more TV musical shows.
The overhaul of âSmashâ between its first and second seasons didn't translate to any ratings improvement. The NBC show's two-hour season premiere tanked, finishing with a meager 1.1 rating in adults 18-49.
While Eileen (Anjelica Huston) and her team, director Derek Wills (Jack Davenport) and writers Julia Houston (Debra Messing) and Tom Levitt (Christian Borle), do their best to keep up appearances, Smash's characters deal with a variety of other problems.
